When I first met Courtney and Mike during our consultation, I knew instantly they were my kind of couple. Both were sweet, genuine, and not just ready to have a wedding—they were ready to build a marriage. As a photographer who loves celebrating love stories, that mindset always stands out to me. And to top it off, they were decisive—music to my ears! They told me right away they wanted me to capture their day, turning our meeting into more of a warm formality.

Courtney and Mike share a beautiful life together with their four daughters. After Mike’s heartfelt proposal, they wasted no time planning their wedding. In just a few months, they pulled off what many would take a year or more to achieve. The result? A stunning rooftop brunch wedding at the Penthouse Chicago, planned to perfection and filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments.

The day started bright and early at The Study Hotel at the University of Chicago. Courtney’s bridal suite buzzed with activity as her Nicki Rouges Bridal team worked their magic. The energy was warm and joyful, but what struck me most was Courtney’s calmness. Despite the whirlwind of preparation, her room exuded peace, with soothing music setting the tone. Even her eldest daughters joined in the fun, getting glammed up alongside their mom. 💄✨

Meanwhile, Mike and his groomsmen kept things cool and laid-back as they prepared together. It was clear both sides were soaking in every moment, savoring the anticipation of the day ahead.

Once everyone was ready, we headed to the Penthouse for their first look, and Chicago’s skyline didn’t disappoint. The weather was quintessential fall—soft clouds framed the city, creating the perfect backdrop.

Mike stood waiting as Courtney approached, and when she tapped his shoulder, his reaction was everything. It was one of those moments that revealed the depth of their love. His face lit up with joy, and the tenderness between them was palpable. I had to remind myself not to tear up so I could capture the moment in all its beauty. 🥹

The rooftop ceremony was nothing short of magical. As Courtney walked down the aisle to the enchanting sounds of violinist Lee England Jr., every guest felt the emotion in the air. The couple exchanged vows and rings, performed a unity sand ritual, and sealed their love with a kiss. Then, in a nod to tradition, they jumped the broom, celebrating their new beginning with infectious joy. ❤️🎻

After the ceremony, we moved straight into my favorite part of the day: husband and wife portraits. As the guests made their way to the reception at The Quadrangle Club back at the University of Chicago, we stayed back for a few more photos with the breathtaking rooftop backdrop. As you’ll see in the photos, the venue was stunning, but the couple stole the show! 😍

Next, we headed to the quad to join the cocktail hour and brunch reception. The day’s festivities continued with all the beloved wedding traditions: grand entrances, cake cutting, and first dances. But what stood out most to me were two things:

The overwhelming love and support from their family and friends. You could hear it in the heartfelt speeches and see it in the care everyone took to make sure the day flowed smoothly. 💕
How much fun Courtney and Mike had with each other and their loved ones. From the dancing to the laughter, their reception was an entire vibe. 🕺💃

Even after such a full and fun day, Courtney and Mike were up for just a few more photos. We ended the afternoon with portraits right in front of the quad, the perfect way to close out their incredible celebration.
