Why is Christian Life So Boring?
One thing I see a lot being a young millennial Christian, is a misconception of what Christian life is really like. Many people who believe in Christ but do not live for him (I wrote a blog about this if you don't understand the difference) seem to think that living for Christ is a life filled with church, rules and very little fun. To be honest, if that's what Christianity was really like I don't blame them. Who wants to sign up for a life of boredom and bondage? Not I! But thats misconception is designed to keep you from experiencing the blessing of living for Christ. It's meant to convince you that there is nothing enjoyable about it. But that's simply not true. There are so many happy, healthy, adventurous, and exciting YOUNG Christians all around the world. It is time to start shifting the narrative to a truthful depiction of Christianity and away from the imprisoned, dictatorship ideas we have all grown to know.
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
First things first, lets get one thing clear. God is not a dictator who barks out commands and then forces us to obey him. He does not want to control us or take away our ability make choices or to be ourselves. Christianity isn't built on a foundation of bondage. Christianity is about freedom. Yes you read that correctly. God gives us freedom and Christ sets us FREE! God gives us the freedom to choose who we want to become, what we like and dislike, and most importantly he wants us to choose to be close to HIM!
I truly believe that because God made us all so different, God adores our uniqueness. He loves our sense of humor, our creativity, our passion, and our adventurous spirit. How could God dislike something he purposely gave to you. Living for him isn't turning into a bible thumping, holier than thou person who practically lives in the church and shoves religion down everyones throat. That's not it, I promise.
Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
This scripture is a very real depiction of how much God wants us to have an amazing, fulfilling, fun life. He wants to give that life to you. The only catch is that he doesn't want to miss out on it. God wants to live that amazing life with you. But he can only do that if you commit to living life with him. God wants to take those good things you have and want in your life and make them far greater than you can on your own. He wants to take your life to another level. God has an amazing fulfilling life waiting for you, with your name already on it. You just have to be close to him to experience it.
What is Christian life really like? It is having dreams, desires, and aspirations and not having to figure out how to accomplish them on your own. It's having a God who helps you. I enjoy life with a whole new perspective and understanding. My life is not only fun but full of purpose. I find joy in things I never really knew would interest me before. Like spending quiet time with God. I really appreciate time with family and friends more now. They are literally some of the best blessings God has ever given me! Now if you knew me back when, you knew any type of work was my worst enemy. But God even gave me a job that I absolutely LOVE! The closer I get to God the more adventurous I have become. I love trying new things, eating new foods, meeting new people, and going to new places. Traveling any and everywhere has become my new hobby. I was on 20 different flights, just last year. And more recently I took a 3 week road-trip with my boyfriend to 8 different cities (See the video above). It was so much fun!
I can honestly say that since I gave my life over to Christ my life has never been more fun and fulfilling. The more I let God into my life, the more of myself I actually become.
